A World of Feathers, Göteborg

A Featherweight Project

The exhibition, Feathers – A World of Feathers, was originally produced by the Nationaal Museum van Wereldculturen in the Netherlands. Feathers will appear at the Museum of World Culture in Gothenburg between 10 February and 19 August 2018 and admission to the museum is free. The Museum of World Culture hosts a changing programme of themed exhibitions that focus on various contemporary global issues. In combination, they reflect global change and diversity.

For this project, our Dutch colleagues at PPS. Imaging B.V. were entrusted with the task of setting the stage for the colourful motifs as part of the feather-themed exhibition. In order to achieve this goal, large sections of the impressive exhibition spaces were fitted with wall coverings specially produced by PPS. Holland on more than 600 m² of UV shop canvas, which were then professionally installed on location.

To transform a visit to the exhibition into a unique experience, the expansive exhibition rooms were divided into several thematic areas using partition walls. For this purpose, PPS. Holland produced true-colour prints on aluminium sandwich panels over a surface area of more than 50 m². The 4 mm thick panels were decorated with the desired exhibition motifs by means of direct printing and placed as partitions in the museum’s exhibition rooms according to the client’s specifications.

However, it was the specially produced lampshades – likewise consisting of UV shop canvas – which provided the highlight of the exhibition. Spanning a diameter of five metres, the cylindrical structures were suspended from the ceiling and completed the unique exhibition concept in style. In addition to providing the necessary prints, PPS. Holland also supplied and professionally installed the frame systems for the huge lampshades.

In total, more than 650 m² of printing media were prepared for the exhibition, and they have guaranteed exhibition visitors a really special experience since its opening. We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Kossmann.dejong and Brandwacht & Meijer for the excellent collaboration and we look forward to realising further projects together in the future.
