XXL Bottle, Nordhausen
Real Nordhäuser Doppelkorn Schnapps
The home of the popular liquor speciality lies in Thuringia, in the traditional city of Nordhausen. Korn schnapps has been produced here for over 500 years. It’s no wonder, then, that two giant Korn bottles shape the city’s landscape.
After the two bottles were first installed in 2010, the replacement of an XXL Doppelkorn bottle was commissioned by Nordbrand Nordhausen GmbH and Rotkäppchen-Mumm Sektkellereien GmbH in 2017.
The underlying structure is provided by two silo towers at the distillery’s production facilities. The upper ends of the towers were fashioned into the shape of bottle necks using fibreglass-reinforced plastic top pieces.
Once the customer provided the label details, the complete design of the bottles was placed in the expert hands of our subsidiary company, Niggemeyer Bildproduktion. The details were then adjusted to the dimensions of the basic structure of the towers by means of 3D rendering using specialist software. Seven individual courses of meshed vinyl were printed with the bottle design through UV direct printing, before then being stitched together by our partner and assembly specialists, geo Die Luftwerker.
The removal of the old tarpaulins and the spectacular installation of the new bottle covers were executed with the help of a cherry picker and industrial climbers with a head for heights – all in a single day.
